QIPCO Guineas Festival

The Flat season's first Classics — the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas over Newmarket's Rowley Mile.

The Guineas Festival at Newmarket in early May opens the Classic season, with the 2,000 Guineas (colts) and 1,000 Guineas (fillies) run over a straight mile on the Rowley Mile. These are the first championship tests for the new crop of three-year-olds and set the tone for the whole campaign.

The Rowley Mile is a long, galloping, testing straight with the famous 'Dip' and rise to the line, so it rewards a well-bred, classy miler that stays every yard and quickens off a strong pace. Draw and pace can matter in big fields — the runners sometimes split into groups across the wide track — so it pays to see how the early races ride. Juvenile form from the previous season, and the spring trials, are the standard guides.

Through the meeting, our model reads every race — probabilities and value against the market — and publishes its selections, registered before the off and graded against the result. See today's racecards or how it works.
