The Galway Festival at Ballybrit is the most popular meeting in the Irish calendar: seven days at the turn of July and August drawing enormous crowds for a mix of Flat and jumps racing, headed by the famous Galway Plate and Galway Hurdle. The atmosphere is unrivalled and the betting heats are fiercely competitive.
Galway is a tight, undulating right-handed track that puts a premium on a handy position, tactical speed and adaptability — big, one-paced gallopers can struggle to get competitive round the turns. The draw and pace matter, and course form is a genuine positive, so horses that have run well at Ballybrit before are worth respecting.
