Dante Festival

York's three-day May meeting — home of the Dante Stakes, the season's key Derby trial.

The Dante Festival at York in mid-May is one of the most important early-season Flat meetings, headed by the Dante Stakes — traditionally the strongest single trial for the Epsom Derby. Winners and placed horses here regularly go on to Classic glory, so the form is closely watched by everyone with a Derby interest.

York's fair, wide, galloping Knavesmire lets the best horses show their ability without track quirks getting in the way, which is exactly why its trial form reads so reliably to Epsom and the summer's Group races. It suits genuine middle-distance types that stay and quicken off a strong gallop.

How Algohorse reads the Dante Festival

Through the meeting, our model reads every race — probabilities and value against the market — and publishes its selections, registered before the off and graded against the result. See today's racecards or how it works.
