Coral Gold Cup

Newbury's historic staying handicap chase — a season-defining early-winter target.

The Coral Gold Cup at Newbury in late November (long known as the Hennessy) is one of the most prestigious staying handicap chases of the season — a three-mile-plus test that many top yards target from the start of the campaign. Its roll of honour is studded with future Gold Cup horses.

Newbury is a fair, galloping left-handed track with a stiff finish, so it rewards a genuine, progressive staying chaser that jumps well and sees out the trip strongly, often carrying a competitive weight. Because ambitious yards aim young, improving horses here, lightly-raced types on the upgrade are a classic angle.

How Algohorse reads the Coral Gold Cup

Through the meeting, our model reads every race — probabilities and value against the market — and publishes its selections, registered before the off and graded against the result. See today's racecards or how it works.
